Toddler accidentally buys car on eBay while playing with father’s smartphone

Here’s a kid who knows a good deal when she sees one.

Sorella Stoute, a 14-month-old Oregon girl, was playing with her father’s smartphone when, after some poking around, she eventually landed on the eBay app. A single accidental tap on the “buy-it-now” button is all it took for little Sorella to become the proud owner of a vintage 1962 Austin-Healey Sprite.

Luckily for her parents, the cost was only $225. Unluckily, you get what you pay for: the “car” needs more than a tune up to say the least. The eBay ad listed it as the “Frankensprite.”
“Tap, tap, tap and now I own a car,” Paul Stoute, the toddler’s father, told KPTV.

Paul didn’t find out about the purchase until he’d received an email confirming his bid. Sorella’s parents said they felt “panic,” but decided to keep the car. Turns out their purchase was parked just a few miles away. Also turns out “my toddler did it” isn’t listed as a way out of your bids in eBay’s terms and conditions.

Of course, now Sorella’s parents have to deal with restoring the vehicle. Paul says he’s thinking he’d like to get it into working condition in time to be a possible sweet sixteen present for his daughter. Not only a great vintage ride, it would also serve as a great reminder that Sorella should think long and hard before having kids of her own.
